“Frequently Asked Questions about our rock opera”
BLOG #15
1. ) You’ve written a rock opera, but many of your songs are not rock. Is that a problem?
A rock opera is a category of musical theatre more than a genre of music. Similar to traditional opera “operatic music”, a “rock opera” is 100% song and music, substituting operatic music with contemporary genres of music such as rock, R&B, ballads, acoustic and many other genres. Rock is not the only genre of music included in rock operas.
2.) What are the expectations for sales of your double album?
This question has a multitude of answers. Even though we have positioned HE’S ALIVE as a double album, we are focused on producing mastered tracks that are accessible not only on vinyl and disc, but also digitally, whether streamed or purchased as a downloaded. No matter how the consumer wants it, we plan to provide it. Secondarily, we are focused primarily on ‘reach’ (a marketing term) more than sales and profit numbers. We are projecting our ‘reach’ numbers to be in the millions across the globe… God willing. Equally our goal is to gain interest in the film industry through ‘reach’ numbers, quality of music and strength of storyline.
3.) Why don’t you have a label involved?
Labels are less the way of the world than they used to be. The Lord keeps presenting opportunities and blessings in our lap that help make it unnecessary to seek the financial and marketing assistant commonly provided by labels at the cost of ownership which we are reluctant to give up. As long as He keeps answering our prayers, we’ll keep following His lead.
4.) Will HE’S ALIVE ever hit Broadway?
Two years ago, an award-winning Broadway producer talked with me about our rock opera. He was extremely impressed with the music but warned me that placing a new musical on Broadway will take decades and cost over $20,000,000. The pandemic slowed down the theatrical industry to the point that only proven winners were booked. And yes, the financial cost of entry keeps rising, which is a major deterrent. We have placed our focus on the film industry whose digital distributors are starving for good content.
5.) Do you have plans of releasing HE’S ALIVE songs on Spotify?
Absolutely! As we complete the fine tuning, final mixing and mastering of the songs, we plan on releasing them on Spotify and Apple Music, starting this April.
6.) Do you really think HE’S ALIVE can be released by this Easter (Resurrection Sunday)?
With God on our side, anything is possible. Even a double album by Easter. BTW- that was my date, not necessarily His.
